Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) and president of Puducherry Pradesh Congress Committee V. Vaithilingam on Saturday accused the principal Opposition Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam of failing to function as an effective opposition against the ruling AINRC-BJP government in the Union Territory.

“It was very difficult to differentiate between the ruling party and the Opposition party members because of their conduct in the Assembly. The DMK has failed to fulfil its responsibility as the Principal Opposition party in Puducherry,” Mr. Vaithilingam said at a press conference in PPCC office.

The Congress has demanded a white paper on local body elections in the Union Territory. Justice Sasidharan Commission has submitted its report recommending reservation to Other Backward Classes for Municipality and Commune Panchayat elections in Puducherry, he said.
