District Collectors inaugurate Vettri Payanam Thittam in Salem and Namakkal
District Collectors in Salem and Namakkal have officially launched the Vettri Payanam Thittam, a scheme providing free bus travel for women. The initiative covers various bus services, including ordinary, express, and mofussil routes, to improve accessibility for female passengers.

Vettri Payanam Thittam, which expands free bus ride for women, was launched in Salem and Namakkal districts by the respective Collectors on Friday (October 2).
Salem District Collector K. Elambahavath inaugurated the scheme at the Salem New Bus Stand and distributed no-fare bus tickets to women on a bus. The scheme would be implemented in 150 government buses, including 10 LSS buses, 17 ghat ordinary services buses, and 123 ordinary services mofussil buses.
Namakkal Collector L. Madhubalan inaugurated the scheme at the new bus stand in Namakkal city and distributed no-fare bus tickets to women passengers on a bus.
Mr. Madhubalan said women can travel on ordinary, express, LSS, deluxe town buses, ordinary service mofussil buses as well as on ghat ordinary service buses under this scheme.
