Disabilities Advocates Urges Gov’t to Provide Assistive Devices to PWDs in Northern Uganda

Disability rights advocates in Northern Uganda are calling on the government and development partners to provide assistive devices to persons living with disabilities in Northern Uganda.

According to Edonga Tom Patrick, a trainer of trainers with the Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus Association Uganda (SHAU), many children living with disabilities in Northern Uganda lack assistive devices such as wheelchairs, canes and crutches to help them move. Edonga added that persons living with disabilities, especially children, are greatly affected because many come from poor families that cannot afford these devices. He urged the government and development partners to support these children so that they can live decent lives.
