The National Highways authorities have identified Sakkudi, Narikkudi and Parthibanur as accident-prone spots on the four-lane Madurai–Ramanathapuram highway and announced plans to construct subways. However, experience shows that subways often get flooded during the monsoon. Constructing road overbridges at these spots would be a permanent alternative.
The authorities should also prevent any unauthorised construction between the carriageways near Manamadurai, as it could endanger road users.
Several roads around the Collectorate complex in Ramanathapuram have numerous speed breakers, many of them disproportionately high. However, they lack zebra markings, cautionary boards and other warning signs, making them difficult to notice, especially at night.
