Dilip Gavit's journey: From losing right arm to raising the tricolour on podiums

NEW DELHI: At five, Dilip Mahadu Gavit knew little about the fragility of life. A fall from a tree left him with a serious injury to his right arm, but there was no reason to believe that a childhood accident would alter the course of his life. The wound initially appeared manageable, but it turned septic. What followed was every parent's nightmare. Doctors had no choice but to amputate his arm.For most, losing an arm at such a tender age could have meant the end of dreams before they had even begun. For Gavit, it became the beginning of a battle he would spend years fighting, one that would eventually take him to a place few could have imagined: the Commonwealth Games podium.
