Dhanushkodi wore a deserted look without tourists on Wednesday after the Rameswaram-Dhanushkodi road was closed as a precautionary measure following the swell surge warning issued by the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services.
The alert was issued for the swell surge from 2.30 a.m. on Wednesday until 5.30 p.m. on Thursday.
Tourists and pilgrims who had come to Rameswaram Island were stopped at Rameswaram New Road with barricades.

Fishermen from Rameswaram, Pamban and Mandapam were not permitted to venture into the sea on Wednesday.
