dfcu Bank has reiterated its support for Uganda's mining sector through asset financing, insurance and foreign-exchange risk management as the country seeks to increase investment and move from raw mineral extraction to domestic processing and manufacturing.

Moses Malinga, Sector Head for Infrastructure and Energy at dfcu Bank, said the bank was engaging mining operators directly to understand their financing and operational challenges, including those faced by artisanal and small-scale miners.

“We have actually been to the field. We have gone and met with some of these artisanal miners. We know their concerns,” Malinga said ahead of the 15th Mineral Wealth Conference at the Uganda Media Centre.

Malinga said dfcu had partnered with insurance firm Minet to provide medical and accident covers for artisanal operators, while also offering asset financing to help miners acquire equipment.
