‘Developed countries must take lead': India calls for climate finance after Nepal flood

NEW DELHI: The ministry of external affairs on Friday said developed countries must take the lead in reducing emissions and support developing nations through finance and technology transfer, reiterating India's position that climate action must be guided by the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities.The remarks by MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal came in the aftermath of the devastating flash floods in Nepal and amid questions over remarks concerning climate-related compensation from major economies, including India, China and the United States.‘Climate change is a common challenge’Addressing the issue at a weekly media briefing, Jaiswal said India had consistently maintained that climate change was a shared challenge.“I understand that a clarification has also been issued by the Nepalese side.
