Deputy GMA boss gives Insight, 2 others seven days to retract "landguards" story

Deputy Director-General of the Ghana Maritime Authority (GMA) Mubarick Masawudu has, through his lawyers, given three media organisations seven days to retract a report alleging that he used “land guards” in a private land dispute, warning of legal action if they fail to comply.

LIMO@LAW said the report published on 10 September had accused its client of involvement in the use of land guards without first verifying the allegation or seeking his response.

In a demand and retraction notice, the law firm said the publication fell short of established journalistic standards requiring allegations to be properly investigated, verified and cross-checked before publication.

The firm described the alleged failure to seek Masawudu’s side as a “serious departure” from those standards.

It demanded that the media organisations retract the report, publish an apology and remove the article from their digital and online platforms.
