This highlights the importance of linguistic accessibility in public services and the challenges of regional communication in a diverse country.
The Cauvery Delta Railway Payanigal Sangam has resented the deployment of non-Tamil speaking security personnel for duty at the Thanjavur Railway Junction.
In a memorandum to the Station Master, Thanjavur Railway Junction, the sangam said a majority of the commuters were non-conversant with languages other than Tamil and were finding it difficult to communicate with the railway security personnel, particularly at night.
Getting information about the movement and boarding of passenger trains, exit points to continue their travel by road, and seeking other details has become a problem for the commuters as the security personnel did not understand Tamil, the sangam added.
