Delhi University has mandated that all colleges and hostels conduct safety audits and submit reports by October 12. The initiative focuses on improving lighting, CCTV surveillance, and overall security measures, particularly for women.
Why it matters
This reflects an administrative response to growing concerns regarding campus safety and infrastructure maintenance in urban educational institutions.
Delhi University has asked its colleges, departments and hostels to conduct comprehensive safety assessments and submit detailed reports by October 12, with a focus on improving lighting, CCTV surveillance and security measures for women, according to university officials.
A statement was issued by DU Proctor Manoj Singh following an online meeting held on Friday (October 9, 2026) with college principals, deans, directors, heads of departments, hostel provosts, wardens and resident tutors to discuss safety and security across the university.
“Delhi University has colleges and campuses spread across the city. The objective is first to collect data on where and what can be improved so that we can give the report to the LG and CM, and accordingly action for campus and women safety can be taken,” Mr. Singh said.
