Delhi SIR : Why Deleted Voters Asked To File Form 6 When They Were On 2026 Rolls? Supreme Court Asks ECI

The Supreme Court of India has questioned the Election Commission regarding the process for deleted voters to re-register. The court expressed concern that requiring individuals to use Form 6, intended for first-time voters, is inappropriate for those previously on electoral rolls.
Why it matters
Ensuring accurate electoral rolls is fundamental to the integrity of democratic processes and voter enfranchisement.
With respect to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Delhi, the Supreme Court on Wednesday questioned the Election Commission of India over asking persons deleted from the draft roll for not filling up enumeration forms to use Form 6 to register as new voters, when they were on the 2026 rolls. The Court pointed out that Form 6 is meant for first-time voters, where the applicants have to declare that they have not voted before. The Court underscored that in Delhi, there would be various persons on whom enumeration forms could not be served as they changed their addresses, or have temporarily gone out of the city for work.
