NEW DELHI: The Delhi Police crime branch on Thursday registered an FIR into the July 20 CJP protest to investigate people behind the violence, police sources told news agency PTI.Police officials on Wednesday also denied permission for the CJP's proposed protest on October 10, which has been called against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.On July 20, the protesters, gathered on the appeal of the CJP, were marching towards Parliament when the situation turned tensed as demonstrators attempted to move towards Parliament and breach police barricades in central Delhi, security personnel used tear gas and lathi-charge to disperse the protesters.Several videos subsequently circulated on social media, purportedly showing protesters being manhandled by police personnel, leading to allegations of excessive use of force.The Delhi Police, however, defended its action and maintained that force was used only after sections of the protesting crowd allegedly turned violent and engaged in stone-pelting.In the incident more…
