Delhi govt. to introduce land records Bill; issue Aadhaar-like ID cards to all properties

The Delhi government plans to introduce the Delhi Land Records Bill, 2026, to digitize property records and issue unique 'Property Aadhaar' ID cards. This initiative aims to increase transparency, simplify property transactions, and reduce land-related legal disputes.
Why it matters
Digitizing land records is a critical step toward administrative efficiency and reducing corruption in urban property management in India.
The Delhi government is working on a new Bill to create a consolidated digital record of all properties in the city, the Chief Minister’s Office said on Thursday.
“Once the law comes into force, every property in Delhi will undergo a scientific survey and a comprehensive digital record will be created. Each property will then be assigned a unique ‘Property Aadhaar Card’,” an official statement read.
The proposed Delhi Land Records Bill, 2026, however, will not be tabled in the Monsoon Session of the Assembly and the government is likely to convene a special session later in connection with the Bill.
