Delhi government meets target of planting 70 lakh saplings

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday said the Delhi government had achieved its target of planting 70 lakh saplings under ‘Mission Green Delhi’. The initiative was launched on July 7 by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

The campaign saw participation from government departments, local bodies, schools, colleges, resident welfare associations (RWA), NGOs and citizens, according to the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO).

Ms. Gupta said the achievement was the result of sustained efforts to expand Delhi’s green cover and strengthen its ecosystem. “The government’s aim is to build a city where development and environmental protection move forward together,” she said.

Special plantation drives were carried out in the Central Ridge, DDA Ridge and South Ridge areas, where 24,94,505 saplings were planted.
