By 2047, Delhi could be home to nearly 32 million people, need around 1,600 million gallons of potable water every day, generate nearly 26,000 tonnes of solid waste daily and require roughly 40 lakh additional homes.Those numbers tell a bigger story than population growth. They point to a city that will need to build more — while somehow using less land, less water and fewer resources, without compromising safety, mobility, liveability or the environment.That is the challenge at the heart of the Master Plan for Delhi 2047 (MPD-2047).The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) unveiled the MPD-2047 at the National Media Centre on August 20, 2026, presenting it as the fourth master plan for the capital, with a perspective extending to 2047.
