All three major fronts have fielded first-time candidates in the forthcoming by-election to the Ayyappankkavu division of the Kochi Corporation, which is expected to have little impact on the civic body’s governance, as the ruling United Democratic Front (UDF) continues to enjoy a formidable majority.
P.K. Usman, 51, the Left Democratic Front (LDF) candidate, and Bejoy K.D., 52, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate, filed their nominations with the Corporation accounts officer, who also serves as the assistant returning officer, at the Corporation headquarters on Wednesday (September 9, 2026). The UDF candidate, Ajith Kumar A.K., 77, will file his nomination on Thursday (September 10, 2026), the last day for submission. All three candidates are registered voters in the division.
