Auckland restaurant and bar Darling on Drake has gone into liquidation owing over $500,000 to creditors, after attempts to revive the business reportedly failed.

Eight States, trading as Darling on Drake, opened in December 2023. Created by Fraser Kirby, the venue was known for its international influence, largely from cities such as New York, Chicago and Melbourne.

The restaurant was also bolstered by a menu by chef Ryan Moore, described by Viva’s Jesse Mulligan as “one of the best chefs in New Zealand”.

Eight States was placed into liquidation on September 3, 2026, on appointment of Inland Revenue, with the Official Assignee appointed as liquidator.
