DAP staying in govt with eye on GE16, says analyst
The Democratic Action Party (DAP) in Malaysia has voted to remain in the unity government to maintain political influence ahead of the next general election. Analysts suggest this is a pragmatic move to ensure policy-making power despite the risks of shared governance.

At DAP's special congress on Sunday, 1,857 out of 2,099 delegates voted for the party to remain in the government.
PETALING JAYA: DAP's decision to remain in its unity government positions until the end of the parliamentary term has been seen as a strategic move to retain influence ahead of the next general election (GE16).
Political analyst Sivamurugan Pandian of Universiti Sains Malaysia said being in government gave DAP access to power and influence in policymaking.
"If they're not at the decision-making table, it will be tough for them. It shows that DAP doesn't want to take the risk of leaving the government when GE16 is approaching," he told FMT.
However, he said this was a double-edged sword as the Pakatan Harapan component would also have to share the blame for any of the unity government's weaknesses or failures.
