Accusing the Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) of not providing tourist taxis and maxi cabs with the 10-minute free pick-up and drop facility that is extended to private vehicles, the Dakshina Kannada Taximen’s and Maxi Cab Association will hold a protest in Kavoor, Mangaluru, on Tuesday.
Speaking to reporters on Saturday, association president K. Ananda said private vehicles are allowed free pick-up and drop facilities for 10 minutes and are charged ₹100 if the time limit exceeds. He alleged that tourist taxis and maxi cabs are not being given the same free pick-up and drop facility. Instead, taxis are charged ₹180, while maxi cabs are charged between ₹500 and ₹600.
“Passengers travelling by our vehicles are unnecessarily being burdened. Despite representations made by us, the airport authorities have failed to extend the free pick-up and drop facility to taxis and maxi cabs,” he alleged.
