Dakshina Kannada autorickshaw fare revised again; per-km charge up from ₹20 to ₹23

The Dakshina Kannada Regional Transport Authority has increased the per-kilometer autorickshaw fare from ₹20 to ₹23, effective November 1. While drivers requested a higher increase due to rising fuel and maintenance costs, the authority opted for a moderate hike to ensure public transport remains affordable.
Why it matters
This decision reflects the ongoing tension between rising operational costs for transport workers and the need to maintain affordable public transit for the general population.
The Dakshina Kannada Regional Transport Authority (RTA) has further revised autorickshaw fares in the district, enhancing the per-kilometre fare from ₹20 to ₹23 with effect from November 1. The minimum fare, which was increased from ₹35 to ₹40 for the first 1.5 km on August 28, will remain unchanged.
In a notification issued on October 1, the Member-Secretary of the RTA said the August 28 notification did not take into account the per-km fare of ₹20 already fixed by the Authority in its notification of November 23, 2022. As such, the ₹20 per-km fare was continued in the August 28 notification.
