Andhra Pradesh Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar announced that the state's daily electricity demand has risen to 290 MU, necessitating infrastructure upgrades. The government is investing ₹6,000 crore in new substations and power network improvements to ensure uninterrupted supply.
Why it matters
Rising power demand in industrializing states highlights the critical need for infrastructure investment to support economic growth and prevent energy shortages.
Andhra Pradesh’s daily electricity requirement has increased from 265 MU to 290 MU, says Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar.
The Minister, along with MLA Damacharla Janardhana Rao, inaugurated a 132/33 kV AP-Transco substation constructed at a cost of ₹44.25 crore at Kothapatnam in Ongole Assembly constituency on Thursday.
Addressing the media later, Mr. Ravi Kumar said, “To meet the rising demand, power generation by AP-Genco is being increased. This apart, additional electricity is being procured through other sources. The government is ensuring uninterrupted supply despite the increase in demand and will accelerate infrastructure development to meet future requirements.”
