They accuse the DA of hypocrisy and disregarding community wishes, while the provincial leader defends the new members.
Why it matters
This internal conflict within a major South African political party highlights challenges in coalition building and candidate selection, potentially impacting voter trust and election outcomes in a key region.

DA insiders are furious, accusing the party of accepting former ANC members and "imposing" them as ward councillors despite resistance from communities.
“The DA is using the threat of MK as justification to override what communities actually want — like installing a former ANC councillor as our candidate in one ward, or imposing a different, unwanted candidate in another.
"A government exists to serve the people, not to bully or pressure them into accepting decisions made on their behalf. By using the threat of a worse alternative as leverage, the DA is behaving no differently from the ANC,” one irate insider told IOL.
