According to City police, Geetha, a 40-year-old flower vendor, lives in a hut in Mogappair West, near Ambattur, with her son and daughter. On Sunday (October 11, 2026), Ms. Geetha’s daughter — who was sleeping alone inside the home at the time — woke up to thick smoke inside the house. She managed to escape safely by running outside to alert neighbours for help
Within a few minutes, the fire spread rapidly, engulfing the house in flames and causing the two gas cylinders kept inside the house to explode one after another with a deafening sound.
