Cybersecurity takes centre stage in Tanzania’s financial sector

Tanzanian financial leaders and government officials met at the Fortify Finance Forum to discuss the integration of AI in the banking sector. The forum emphasized the urgent need for robust cybersecurity measures to protect digital financial infrastructure from increasingly sophisticated threats.
Why it matters
As developing nations rapidly digitize their economies, establishing secure financial frameworks is critical to maintaining public trust and economic stability.
DAR ES SALAAM: RAPID advances in artificial intelligence (AI) are transforming Tanzania’s financial sector, creating new opportunities for innovation, efficiency and improved services while exposing banks, insurers and other financial service providers to increasingly sophisticated cyber threats.
As financial transactions, customer services and business operations move further into digital platforms, stakeholders are being urged to strengthen cyber defences and prepare for emerging risks that may affect businesses, institutions, customer information and public trust.
The government has consequently called for greater collaboration among financial institutions, regulators, technology companies, telecommunications operators, academia and development partners to strengthen the country’s ability to prevent, detect and respond to cyber incidents.
