Cubs 5, Dodgers 1: Dansby Swanson’s three hits help defeat Tarik Skubal

The Chicago Cubs defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 5-1 in a game marked by a hostile crowd reception for Dodgers pitcher Tarik Skubal. Dansby Swanson led the Cubs' offense with three hits, including a home run, to secure the win.
Why it matters
The game highlights the intense atmosphere of professional baseball and the high-stakes nature of player acquisitions and team rivalries.
Tarik who?
The hype around the Dodgers’ acquisition of Tarik Skubal had reached nearly fever pitch by the time he took the mound — to a chorus of boos — Tuesday night at Wrigley Field. In fact, Skubal was booed by the Wrigley crowd just for walking out to the bullpen before the game. And if you didn’t see this earlier, a plane flew over the ballpark Tuesday afternoon trailing a banner that read “THE DODGERS RUINED BASEBALL” — only the banner was flying upside down:

Then the Cubs held Skubal to basically a standstill until he was removed after six innings trailing 2-1. That was thanks to Javier Assad, who pretty much matched Skubal all evening, and Dansby Swanson, who homered, doubled and singled for his first three-hit game since the second game of that doubleheader in New York in June.
