Officials from the meteorological department in the Ministry of Water and Environment blamed the situation on a buildup of El Nino, which is characterised by heavy rainfall and floods as well as droughts and heat, expected this year.

Between June and September this year, Uganda experienced a prolonged dry spell across the country, resulting in human and livestock deaths due to especially lack of food and the drying up of water sources.
