Why it matters
The series expands a major horror franchise mythology, marking a significant collaboration between a major streaming platform and a prominent independent production studio.
Peacock and A24 have released the first full trailer for Crystal Lake , the eight-episode prequel series that travels back to the origins of the Friday the 13th mythology. Linda Cardellini stars as Pamela Voorhees, Jason’s mother, as she struggles with grief nearly a year after her young son drowned at Crystal Lake.
The trailer follows Pam as two strangers arrive at her home and begin asking questions about her past. Their investigation sets off a chain of events around Crystal Lake, where memories of Jason’s drowning continue to haunt the community. Pam’s grief gradually turns into rage as the mystery surrounding her family deepens.
The footage also brings the franchise’s familiar horror machinery back into play, with campers, bloodshed and ominous activity around the lake. Callum Vinson plays young Jason Voorhees, whose death remains the central trauma shaping Pam’s increasingly violent path.
