Crop insurance cover for paddy farmers in Erode

The Erode district administration has invited paddy farmers to enroll in the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana for the 2026-27 season. Farmers must register by November 15 to secure insurance coverage against potential crop losses.
Why it matters
This initiative provides a financial safety net for agricultural workers, helping to stabilize the local rural economy against climate-related risks.
The district administration has asked paddy farmers in the district to enrol under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) for the Rabi Special (Samba) 2026-27 season by November 15.
A release from District Collector S. Kandasamy said the scheme is being implemented in the district through the Agricultural Insurance Company of India Limited. A notification has been issued for insuring paddy crops at the firka level.
Farmers who have availed themselves of crop loans in the notified firkas can opt for insurance through the Primary Agricultural Cooperative Credit Societies or nationalised banks from which they obtained the loans.
