In a crackdown on unauthorised rental businesses in Puducherry, the Traffic Police detained 34 two-wheelers operated by such firms.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Traffic, D. Divya said the two-wheelers that were detained were taken to the Transport Department for verification. Necessary action would be initiated after proper verification by the department, a release said.

The Traffic Police, in coordination with Transport Department, conducted the drive last week to streamline the two-wheeler rental business in the town and suburban areas.

Rental bike owners/ operators have been advised to provide proper protective helmets to tourists/customers along with rental two-wheelers and to ensure strict compliance with all applicable traffic rules and road-safety regulations.
