CPI stands firm on Deputy Leader of the Opposition demand in Keralam

Communist Party of India (CPI) State secretary Binoy Viswam on Friday (September 25, 2026) said the party remained firm in its demand for the Deputy Leader of the Opposition post in the Keralam Legislative Assembly.

Mr. Viswam pointed out that the first round of discussions on the issue with the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] had been completed and that more talks would follow. He expressed confidence that the two parties would be able to resolve its differences in the matter.

He, however, indicated that a meeting of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) Parliamentary Party could take place only after a resolution was found to the contentious issue.

Addressing a press conference in Thiruvananthapuram, the CPI leader accused the Election Commission (EC) of undermining democratic rights through the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
