CPI stages demonstration in Thoothukudi
The Communist Party of India (CPI) held a demonstration in Thoothukudi to protest the proposed construction of a dam at Mekadatu. The protesters demanded that the Karnataka government respect Supreme Court judgments regarding river water rights and provide drought relief to delta farmers.

The protest, led by party’s Thoothukudi city secretary G. Dhanalakshmi, was held near Chidamabara Nagar bus stop.
The protestors said the proposed construction of a dam at Mekadatu should not be permitted and urged the Karnataka government to respect and implement the final judgment of the Supreme Court.
