CPI seeks explanation from L-G on delay in notifying portfolio list

The Communist Party of India has demanded an explanation from the Puducherry Lieutenant Governor regarding the delay in notifying ministerial portfolios. The party claims the delay undermines constitutional principles and suggests political bias toward the ruling AINRC's ally, the BJP.

This highlights ongoing tensions regarding the balance of power between appointed officials and elected representatives in Indian Union Territories.
The Communist Party of India has sought an explanation from Lieutenant Governor K. Kailashnathan on the delay in notifying the portfolios of Ministers in the Cabinet headed by Chief Minister and AINRC founder N. Rangasamy in Puducherry.
In a statement, CPI secretary A. M. Saleem said the Chief Minister was facing criticism for not allocating portfolios even two months after he assumed office. After facing much criticism, the Chief Minister submitted the list to the Lt. Governor on July 20. However, the list was yet to be notified, the release said.
The delay in notifying the list, the CPI leader said, gives an impression that the Lt. Governor’s Office was “acting in favour” of the ruling AINRC’s ally, the BJP. The allocation of portfolios was the sole discretion of the Chief Minister.
