CPI(M) worker convicted in BJP worker murder case

A court in Thalassery has convicted a CPI(M) worker for the 2009 murder of a BJP activist, while acquitting seven other co-accused. The sentencing for the convicted individual is scheduled for October 12, 2026.

A CPI(M) worker has been found guilty in the 2009 murder of Vinayan, a Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) activist in Panoor.
The Third Additional District and Sessions Court in Thalassery found Janmeentavida Biju, 45, of Chambad, guilty in the case. Seven other accused were acquitted after the court found them not guilty. The sentence for Biju will be pronounced on Monday (October 12, 2026).
Vinayan, 36, son of Raghavan of Vadakkachalil, was hacked to death at Kurichikkara in Champad at around 8 p.m. on March 12, 2009.
Vinayan sustained serious injuries in the attack allegedly carried out by CPI(M) workers and was lying on the roadside when the then Panoor Sub-Inspector Dinesh Koroth, who happened to pass by, took him to Thalassery hospital
The case was heard by Third additional District and Session Judge Ruby K Jose.
