CPI(M) protests hike in Vijaya Dairy milk prices

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] on Sunday staged a protest at the Krishna District Milk Union (Vijaya Dairy) in Vijayawada against the recent hike in milk prices, demanding the increased prices be withdrawn immediately.
CPI(M) leaders and activists entered the administrative block premises and staged a demonstration, raising slogans against the NDA government and the dairy management. They also staged a song-based protest outside the office against the rise in prices.
CPI(M) leaders said milk was an essential food item and the price surge would directly burden middle-class and poorer households. They said children, elderly persons and those suffering from illness are dependent on milk regularly.
The leaders questioned the decision to raise prices when the dairy was reportedly operating profitably and spending crores of rupees on development and expansion.
