CPI(M) leader Mohamed Riyas rejects hawala allegations against wife and Pinarayi’s daughter T. Veena

CPI(M) leader P.A. Mohamed Riyas has denied allegations that his wife, T. Veena, admitted to hawala transactions during an Enforcement Directorate investigation. He characterized the reports as politically motivated attempts to defame the family.
Why it matters
The case involves high-profile political figures in Kerala and highlights ongoing tensions between state leadership and federal investigative agencies.
CPI(M) leader P.A. Mohamed Riyas on Tuesday (September 15, 2026) rejected reports alleging that his wife, T. Veena, admitted to hawala transactions before the ED, claiming these were attempts to defame her.
Ms. Veena is the daughter of former Chief Minister, CPI(M) senior Politburo member and current Opposition Leader Pinarayi Vijayan.
Mr. Riyas, speaking to reporters in Kozhikode, further contended that the “scribblings” that were found by the ED in May this year during its probe into the alleged CMRL pay-off case were related to a future business endeavour Ms. Veena was planning.
The former Minister and current MLA from Beypore also questioned the timing of the release of such reports – when the extended State committee meeting of the CPI(M) was set to conclude.
