Madurai urban district unit of Communist Party of India (Marxist) has demanded to ensure safety of the people by maintaining law and order.
Its district committee meeting, led by party executive committee member, M. Balasubramaniam, held on Monday pointed out that eight murders have been reported in the city in 11 days between July 30 and August 9.
This has created panic among the residents. The party has expressed its concern over the murders in a short span of time, a statement said.
The primary duty of the police is not to take action after crimes are committed but to take pre-emptive steps to prevent them. Officials in the top echelons in police department should study this trend immediately, the statement said.
The availability of banned psychotrophic drugs, including ganja, and increasing trend of youths becoming addicted to them were the breeding ground for increasing violence and criminal activities.
