The Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] State unit on Thursday condemned the preventive arrests and proposed binding-over cases against CPM and mass organisation leaders and activists in Kakinada district for allegedly supporting an agitation by unemployed youth.

CPI(M) State secretary V. Srinivasa Rao stated in a release that the police had arrested Kakinada City CPM leader Palivela Veerababu, student leader M.G. Suribabu, youth leaders T. Raja and Adarsh, threatened to book them under binding-over proceedings.

He termed the police action undemocratic and alleged that the government was violating citizens’ fundamental rights by resorting to binding-over cases.
