Court sets dates for Kakuuto MP election petition
The High Court in Masaka has scheduled hearings for election petitions challenging the results of the Kakuuto County MP race and the Rakai District Woman MP seat. Petitioners allege electoral irregularities, including result alteration and voter bribery, seeking either a declaration of victory or a by-election.

The High Court in Masaka has set October 15 and 16 to start hearing the petition by National Unity Platform’s Geoffrey Lutaaya challenging the victory of NRM’s Ismael Uthman Kaka as Kakuuto County MP.
Appearing before Justice Thomas Ochaya on Monday, the respondent’s lawyer Geoffrey Kandeebe said he wants to cross-examine six witnesses, including the petitioner himself, which court allowed.
In his suit, Lutaaya, a singer-cum-politician, says the Electoral Commission altered results from four polling stations, leading to his loss. He wants court to declare him the duly elected MP or order a by-election.
Lutaaya’s lawyer Abubakar Ssekanjako said they will call three witnesses including the respondent and rely on Declaration of Results Forms.
“We have completed the scheduling conference; we have agreed on how we are going to proceed and the issues of law on which we are going to base our case,” he told journalists outside court.
