Court orders further probe into death of cashier in ‘lottery king’ Martin’s firm

A special court in Coimbatore has ordered a fresh investigation into the 2019 death of a cashier employed by a firm linked to 'lottery king' Martin. The court rejected the initial police report that concluded the death was a suicide, citing concerns raised by the victim's family.
Why it matters
The judicial intervention highlights the importance of accountability in high-profile cases involving powerful business figures and potential police negligence.
The Coimbatore district SC/ST Special Court has rejected the final report of the police in the death of T. Palanisamy, a cashier at Future Gaming and Hotel Services, associated with ‘lottery king’ Martin, in 2019 and ordered further investigation.
Palanisamy, who had worked at the company for about 25 years, was found dead in a pond near Velliangadu in Karamadai in 2019. The police had concluded that he died by suicide.
His son, Rohinkumar, challenged the final report, citing doubts over the circumstances of the death and the medical findings. A second post-mortem examination conducted on March 26, 2019, had raised questions about the cause of death, according to the petitioner’s side.
