A couple, along with their two children, reportedly attempted to end their lives in Yelamanchili Mandal in West Godavari district in the early hours of Saturday (September 5, 2026).
A native of Tanuku town in West Godavari district, Namuburu Srinivas, 45, his wife Padmini, 42, and their children, Eswar, 16, and 12-year-old Nithyasri, reportedly took this extreme step due to financial problems, Yelamanchili Sub-Inspector M. Raj Kumar told The Hindu .
Eswar was studying in a polytechnic, and Nithyasri was in class IX. Mr. Srinivas sold milk in the nearby villages, while his wife runs a pan shop in Tanuku town.
The local fisherfolk noticed the family, while they were engaged in fishing in the Godavari River. “The fisherfolk have rescued Ms. Padmini, who has been shifted to Eluru Government Hospital, where her health condition is out of danger”, said Mr. Raj Kumar.
