The Valiyathura police have registered a case in connection with an alleged robbery of gold jewellery worth an estimated ₹8 lakh from a couple who arrived at the Thiruvananthapuram International Airport nearly two weeks ago. According to the police, the incident took place on September 17, but came to light only after the victims lodged a complaint a few days ago.
The complainant, Safala of Vizhinjam, had arrived from Sharjah with her husband. Prior to their departure, an acquaintance had purportedly approached the couple. The person allegedly offered flight tickets and cash in exchange for transporting seven-and-a-half sovereigns of gold jewellery to Thiruvananthapuram. They were instructed to hand over the consignment to a person named Mehroof upon arrival outside the airport terminal, the First Information Report stated.
