NEW DELHI: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday defended the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and accused opposition parties of politicising the exercise following electoral setbacks. Tensions were high in Delhi with seveeral protests demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.Addressing a press conference on Saturday, BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad cited the Supreme Court’s handling of challenges to the SIR process and alleged that the opposition was seeking to build a narrative that India’s democracy was under threat.Prasad said several opposition parties had approached the Supreme Court to challenge the SIR process.“To challenge the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), the Congress, the Trinamool Congress (TMC), and several other parties approached the Supreme Court. Even some of those so-called ‘jhola-chaap’ individuals, also went along,” he said.Referring to the court proceedings, Prasad added, “The Supreme Court heard these petitions repeatedly, and what has it ultimately said?
