Why it matters
The TNEA process is a critical gateway for higher education in Tamil Nadu, and its management reflects state-level policies on social equity and reservation.
The Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) 2026 counselling process got under way on Monday (July 13, 2026) as the TNEA committee enabled the choice-filling option for the special reservation categories under the horizontal reservation for students who studied in government schools from classes VI to Class XII (7.5% reservation scheme).
The special reservation categories pertained to differently-abled students, candidates seeking admission under the sports quota, and wards of ex-servicemen.
