Cosplay event sets the stage for Vizag Comic Con

A cosplay masterclass in Vizag, led by champion cosplayers, provided hands-on training in prop-making and costume design ahead of the city's first Comic Con. The event highlighted the technical skills involved in the hobby, such as foam shaping and electronics integration.
Why it matters
It reflects the growing popularity of pop culture conventions in India and the professionalization of cosplay as a creative, technical craft.
Not every costume begins with a sewing machine. Some begin with a sheet of 6mm EVA foam, a paper template and a sharp blade. At Pawffe, a pet-friendly café on Beach Road, that was the starting point last weekend for a live demonstration of how to make the Helm of Solitude, a helmet from the video game Elden Ring. It was the centrepiece of a Cosplay Masterclass held ahead of the first edition of Vizag Comic Con.
The session was led by Arindam Paul, grand champion of the Indian Championship of Cosplay (ICC) 2025-26, and Kiran Raj, winner of the 2025 Hyderabad Comic Con Cosplay Competition. Nabaneet Mondal, assistant manager (community), Comic Con, who oversaw the masterclass, described it as the city’s first dedicated cosplay masterclass. The programme was pitched at all levels and covered foam shaping, metallic finishes, prop weathering, VFX makeup and wig styling.
