Corporation steps up monsoon preparedness in Erode

The Erode Corporation has identified eight low-lying areas prone to waterlogging and has planned to keep six relief centres ready as part of its preparedness for the northeast monsoon 2026.

Chairing a meeting on Tuesday (September 22, 2026), Corporation Commissioner Arpit Jain directed officials to clear stormwater drains and waterways, remove blockages and prune tree branches that could pose a risk to the public. Vehicles and equipment required to handle rain-related emergencies are also being kept ready.

Officials from the State Highways Department, National Highways Department, Police, Fire and Rescue Services, Revenue Department and Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation Limited have been asked to coordinate precautionary measures. The Fire and Rescue Services Department will keep firefighting and rescue vehicles ready, while a WhatsApp group will be created for quick exchange of information among the departments during emergencies.
