A coroner has made 16 recommendations arising from the inquest of a rally driver who died during a Kerry rally in 2022.
22-year-old Eoin McCarthy of Dunmanway in Cork died while competing in the Killarney Forestry Rally on 20th February 2022.
Mr McCarthy died when his car slid off the track at an unrailed bridge in Castleisland, leaving him trapped underwater in the car without oxygen for around five minutes.
The inquest heard the event took place amid heavy rain and wind, two days after a status red weather warning.
Issues identified at the inquest included that there was no mobile coverage at that particular stage of the rally, and it took five minutes from when the first SOS was received to when the emergency services were deployed.
