Coordinated raid to capture hundreds of undocumented migrants falls flat

In the brief for Monday’s operation, the KZN government said it received intelligence that hundreds of undocumented foreign nationals were illegally employed in some factories in KwaSithebe, Mandeni.
However, when officials descended on these factories, they didn’t find even one undocumented foreign national.
Factory workers, who didn’t want their names to be disclosed, said that the information about the raid leaked on Sunday night.
“There are people who told the Chinese owners that they are coming today. When we came to work today, we were turned back and told that people from the police, labour and government were coming.”
