Cooler, Wetter Weather Expected to Continue for the Island
Newfoundland is experiencing a cooler and wetter summer than usual, contrasting with the warmer conditions seen in 2025. Meteorologists attribute the unsettled weather to a complex low-pressure system lingering over the island.

The last few weeks have proven to be much cooler and wetter than they were this time last year.
While that’s dampened the threat of forest fires, it’s been a tough go for those on vacation hoping to enjoy outdoor activities.
Environment Canada meteorologist David Neil says a “complex” low pressure area has formed over the island that will continue to bring cooler, cloudy and wet weather over the coming days.
“We’ve definitely had a bit of a spell…where we’ve seen this less than ideal situation for folks who want to have a nice, more summery-type holiday.”
