Continuing power outages in Keralam throw people’s lives into disarray
Residents in Kerala are facing significant daily disruptions due to ongoing power outages lasting several hours each night. The crisis has negatively impacted students' study schedules, the safety of women in public spaces, and the daily routines of elderly and vulnerable citizens.
Why it matters
The prolonged energy crisis highlights critical infrastructure failures and their cascading effects on public safety, education, and the quality of life for urban residents.
With partial power cuts continuing for the tenth consecutive day on Thursday in the State amid a severe power crisis, life has become increasingly difficult for people. Load shedding has been arranged between 6.30 p.m. and 1 a.m., with back-to-back power outages disrupting the daily routines of people. Students, in particular, have been badly affected, with their study schedules thrown into disarray.
People who carry out routine household chores at night have also been hit hard amid the uninformed outages.
According to H. Vishnu, a Class X student of St. Mary’s High School, Pattom, the power cuts have disrupted his study schedule, forcing him to spend more time than usual completing or revising lessons. “A break, even if it lasts only for half an hour, will upset the flow and rhythm of studying,” said Mr. Vishnu.
